Chizuk's aim is to help people - and their families - in the Orthodox Jewish community who have mental health problems; reducing their sense of isolation, building confidence and encouraging them to take their place in society. Chizuk also offers help and support to those experiencing life crises. Our services include drop-in groups, drama and art therapy, family support, befriending, organising carers, hospital visits and advocacy. As the only mental health organisation that specialises in providing a religiously and culturally sensitive environment for its Orthodox Jewish users, Chizuk's function is also educational, in that it helps to combat stigma by changing the way that mental health is viewed in the community.

background information on this organisation
Chizuk was founded in 1996 in response to community care legislations. It services primarily the Orthodox community, but no one is ever turned away without appropriate help. Services are delivered in accordance to Jewish law and are particularly sensitive to the cultural and religious needs of the Orthodox Jewish Community. The community is based in three main cities, London, Manchester and Gateshead. Chizuk is recognized by the Union of Orthodox Hebrew Congregations, Department of Health, Department of Children, School and Families, Local Primary Care Trusts and Mental Health Trusts and Local Authorities. Chizuk works collaboratively with other organizations in the community who have an interest in health and social care as well as playing its part in the wider community representing the views of the Chareidi (strictly Orthodox) community on mental health.
