type of service
Jewish Care is a charity caring for people in the Jewish community. We give care and support to older people, Holocaust survivors, people with physical and sensory disabilities, and those with mental health needs. We also offer a range of support groups and run leadership and activity programmes for children and young people. Our centres and services are based in London and the south-east, and our staff and volunteers support thousands of members of the community each week. In everything we do at Jewish Care, we are guided by our Jewish values of warmth, kindness, honesty and respect.

We provide services for: • A dedicated support and advice line for referrals and service information • Older people • People with mental health needs • People with a physical or sensory disability, including those who are visually impaired • People with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia • Holocaust survivors and refugees • People caring for others • Younger people
other activities
Our clients' emotional needs are just as important as their physical requirements and providing for their day to day needs is just the beginning. We offer care in an environment that recognises and respects our clients’ Jewish identity. We celebrate Jewish festivals and make Shabbat, helping people feel safe and comfortable in a ‘heimische’ atmosphere, at a time when they may feel most vulnerable. We work right across the community and provide care regardless of the level or nature of an individual’s religious observance. In doing so, our care recognises people’s differences as well as their similarities.

background information on this organisation

Jewish Care was created in 1990, through the merger of two charities, to ensure we could provide the best care for the community's needs in the most cost-effective way.

Since then, we have built up strong links and merged our work with other Jewish charities in order to maintain our vision of high quality care for the community.

The following organisations and agencies now come under the umbrella of Jewish Care:

  • Jewish Welfare Board
  • Jewish Blind Society
  • Jewish Home and Hospital at Tottenham
  • Food for the Jewish Poor (Soup Kitchen)
  • British Tay-Sachs Foundation
  • Waverley Manor (Friends of the London Jewish Hospital) - now Clore Manor
  • Brighton and Hove Jewish Home - now Hyman Fine House
  • Stepney Jewish (Bnai Brith) Clubs and Settlements
  • Sinclair House - Redbridge Jewish Youth and Community Centre
