main functions
Government research has shown that a combination of classroom teaching and personalised mentoring is a powerful way to ensure that all pupils can reach their full potential and develop their learning and life skills. At JSS we achieve this through innovative programmes such as personalised learning mentoring, life skills development courses and creative partnerships with teachers and families. Our services include: • educational assessments, • learning skills mentoring (kodesh), • learning skills mentoring (National Curriculum, GCSE, study skills), • life skills and leadership development, • speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and other integrated referrals.
other activities
Since schools have to concentrate on subject tuition and examinations rather than personal development, JSS partners with schools to develop mentoring and coaching skills in their staff, enabling them to identify pupils’ issues at an early stage (even in primary school) and to understand and support their challenges. JSS delivers high quality training to school staff in one-to-one or group settings: • SENCo training and support, • coaching and mentoring skills for teachers, • headteacher and SLT mentoring.

background information on this organisation

Jewish School Services (JSS) started its life in 2005 as the crisis prevention and early intervention arm of The Clubhouse. JSS recognises that most of the young adults who end up in crisis or excluded from society had a negative school experience, and struggled with their studies, with friendships or with their own identity at school.

Now as an organisation in its own right, JSS believes that “prevention is better than cure”, through early identification of children at school who are at risk, long before they are excluded from school, from their families or from yeshivos and seminaries.  Often their teenage life crisis is caused by lack of emotional well-being in school, and learning challenges that have not been identified or addressed.

At JSS we tackle this head-on by working within schools to provide emotional and learning support to individual students, using a holistic approach that looks at all the needs of the child; and training headteachers, senior staff, rebbes and SENCos to be more aware of the needs of all their students.

We introduce innovative programmes such as personalised learning mentoring, life skills development courses and creative partnerships with teachers and families.

Since schools have to concentrate on subject tuition and examinations rather than personal development, JSS also partners with schools to develop mentoring and coaching skills in their staff, enabling them to identify pupils’ issues at an early stage (even in primary school) and to understand and support their challenges.

Jewish School Services goes solo
The umbrella organisation that was “The Clubhouse” has unfortunately closed. One of its divisions Jewish School Services (JSS) - the early crisis intervention arm of the Clubhouse - is re-launching and looks to the community for support and backing to continue its vital preventative services. JSS believes that “prevention is better than cure”, by early identification of those children at school who are at risk long before they are excluded from school, from families or from yeshivos/seminaries. Often their teenage life crisis is caused by lack of positive experiences in school, and learning challenges that have not been assessed or remediated. At JSS we address this head-on by working IN schools to provide emotional and learning mentoring to individual students, using a holistic approach that looks at ALL the needs of the child - educational, emotional, physical and spiritual; and working with staff to train headteachers, senior staff, Rebbes and SENCos to be more aware of the needs of all their students and to develop them further. We urge the community to support the crucial and urgent work of JSS which has saved over 200 students from potential crisis in the last 18 months. For further information, please contact Jonathan Rabson, Head of JSS, on 07974 650647.
